Amber Gwinn: Exotic Animal Zoo Trainer, Med Tech, & Certified Dog Walker
Exotic Animal Trainer & Keeper
Before starting Vagabond Mutt, Amber worked for 17 years as a trainer, keeper, and show performer for places such as Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Discovery Cove in Florida, and the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. She has trained animals as diverse as birds, 2-toed sloths, large cats, lemurs, camels, and kangaroos. One of her favorite activities was introducing dogs and other species to each other. (She found that Beluga whales and walruses particularly enjoyed visiting with dogs.)
Amber’s keeper duties included providing a wide range of medical care to this menagerie as well.

With all of this high level animal training and medical experience under her belt, Amber is excited to have turned her attention these days to her favorite species of all: dogs. Zoo and show work were exciting, but nothing makes her happier than spending her days romping about with four-legged clients, so that her two-legged ones might better enjoy their canine companions.
Always a believer in ongoing education and professional development, Amber attended the dog*tec Dog Walking Academy before launching Vagabond Mutt. The only program of its kind for dog walkers, this widely respected program covers a comprehensive array of topics critical to professional dog walking, including canine behavior, basic training, group management, and safety protocols.
Putting it all to work for you
Amber wants her clients to know their dogs are out having an excellent and safe time. So she uses only positive, humane, scientifically-sound training methods when working with the dogs in her care. Her training background allows her to train dogs to walk nicely on leash together while having their fun. This keeps them safe while they practice good manners.
And her medical background keeps Amber on the watch for any changes in her charges’ physical condition—a little extra peace of mind for her clients.
Amber knows what it’s like to live with high energy dogs. After all, she shares her home with German Short Haired Pointers. If you’ve ever met a GSP, you know they’re not ones for lounging about on the couch! Continually amazed by the positive difference regular canine exercise makes in her own household, Amber loves to share that benefit with others through the professional walking services of Vagabond Mutt.
